Twana M. James is the Founder and Program Director of Black Fredericksburg Radio, a 24-hour online community radio station dedicated to amplifying Black voices, celebrating culture, and highlighting the stories, events, and people shaping Fredericksburg and the surrounding region.

Through Black Fredericksburg Radio, Twana has created a growing platform for community conversations, local history, faith-based inspiration, music, civic engagement, and positive storytelling across Planning District 16, including Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, and beyond. The station reflects her lifelong commitment to media, service, and community connection.

In addition to her work in broadcasting, Twana is also an entrepreneur and licensed Barber/Stylist. She is the owner of Crochet Braids by Twana, where she has built a loyal clientele and a strong local presence through beauty, professionalism, and personal care.

Before launching Black Fredericksburg Radio, Twana built a dynamic career in radio and media across several major markets, including Washington, D.C., Atlanta, New York, and Los Angeles. Her experience includes serving as News Director for Radio One Atlanta’s Hot 97.5, where she was part of coverage surrounding the 1996 Olympic Park bombing.

She later worked as a Radio Broadcast Meteorologist at The Weather Channel, providing weather coverage during major storms, including hurricanes Katrina and Ivan.

Twana’s broadcasting journey also includes service in the U.S. Army Reserves, where she served as an Armed Forces Radio and Television Broadcaster and U.S. Army Broadcast Specialist. Her military media training helped strengthen her skills in journalism, production, communication, and public service.

Her love for radio began at just 12 years old, when she became a Cub Reporter on WKYS’s “All the Way” kids program in Washington, D.C. That early opportunity sparked a lifelong passion for using the microphone to inform, inspire, and connect people.

Today, Twana continues to bring that same passion full circle through Black Fredericksburg Radio — using media as a tool to uplift the community, preserve local stories, and give voice to people who are often overlooked.
